Raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, actor & singer/songwriter Ian Nelson began his career at a young age. He is best known for his screen debut in the blockbuster film THE HUNGER GAMES, MTV's TEEN WOLF, Peacock’s THERE’S JOHNNY, and THE BOY NEXT DOOR with Jennifer Lopez.
Nelson has been singing and dancing for most of his life, but he had a unique road to making his own music.
In late 2019, Nelson’s vocal coach DAVE STROUD urged him that he needed to write original music. Soon after, while on location for the film PAPER SPIDERS, Nelson wrote his first song on his guitar.
He returned to LA and made a demo with a friend, which he then presented to Stroud. Impressed, Stroud connected Nelson with up-and-coming producer JACOB MCCASLIN and the two began working together.
In February of 2020, Nelson had finished recording his debut single, “21st Century Love.” Two weeks later, Los Angeles went into lockdown for COVID-19. Rather than return home to North Carolina, he chose to stay by himself in LA and dedicate every waking moment to music.
Over the next two years, Nelson practiced the guitar for upwards of six hours a day, wrote more than 50 songs, released three singles, and produced, co-directed, and edited three music videos, along with beginning an artist partnership with Gibson Guitars.
When the quarantine lifted in the Summer of 2021, Nelson put a band together and began doing live shows around LA at venues like HOTEL CAFE, THE MINT, and VIPER ROOM, where he headlined the release show for his third single “Elouise.”
To kick off 2022, Nelson recorded his fourth single “Cocaine Kisses.” The song was produced by MICHAEL BEARDEN and DREW DEMPSEY and was recorded at the legendary SUNSET SOUND. The track also features a guitar solo by the famed ORIANTHI, who Nelson recently opened for at the Bourbon Room Hollywood.
Nelson currently lives in Los Angeles, and amongst his ongoing work in TV and film, he is writing/recording more songs for his debut album.
